Checks how well your kidneys filter waste and keep your body's fluid and mineral balance.
Also known as: Kidney Profile, KFT, Renal Function Test
The Kidney Function Test (KFT) is a comprehensive blood test that evaluates how efficiently your kidneys are filtering waste products and maintaining the body's fluid and electrolyte balance. Healthy kidneys remove toxins, regulate minerals, maintain blood pressure, and support overall health.
Poor lifestyle habits, diabetes, high blood pressure, dehydration, certain medications, and kidney diseases can reduce kidney function over time. A Kidney Function Test helps detect these problems early, often before symptoms become noticeable.
A Kidney Function Test (KFT) measures different substances in your blood to determine how effectively your kidneys are filtering waste products and maintaining the body's chemical balance.
The test mainly evaluates:
Doctors use these values to diagnose kidney disease, monitor chronic kidney conditions, evaluate treatment progress, and assess kidney health before surgeries or long-term medications.
Benefits of a kidney function test:
A Kidney Function Test is recommended for:
Book a Kidney Function Test if you experience:
1.BUN Urea Nitrogen
Helps assess kidney performance and hydration status.
2.Calcium
An electrolyte measured to evaluate the body's electrolyte balance.
3.Chloride
An electrolyte measured to evaluate the body's electrolyte balance.
4.Creatinine
Measures waste produced by muscles. Elevated levels may indicate reduced kidney function.
5.Phosphorus
An electrolyte measured to evaluate the body's electrolyte balance.
6.Sodium
An electrolyte measured to evaluate the body's electrolyte balance.
7.Urea
Evaluates how effectively the kidneys remove protein waste.
8.Uric Acid
High levels may indicate kidney disorders, gout, or metabolic conditions.
9.BUN/Creatinine Ratio
Compares BUN with creatinine. Doctors use the ratio to help understand kidney function.
10.Urea/Creatinine Ratio
Compares urea with creatinine. Doctors use the ratio to help understand kidney function.
11.eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate)
No fasting is required unless advised by your doctor.
Before your test:
| Parameter | Normal range |
|---|---|
| Creatinine | 0.6 – 1.3 mg/dL |
| Blood Urea | 15 – 40 mg/dL |
| BUN | 6 – 20 mg/dL |
| eGFR | Above 90 mL/min/1.73m² |
| Uric Acid (Male) | 3.4 – 7.0 mg/dL |
| Uric Acid (Female) | 2.4 – 6.0 mg/dL |
Reference ranges can differ between labs. Your report shows the range used by the lab.

Estimates the filtering capacity of your kidneys and is one of the most important indicators of kidney health.
People with diabetes, hypertension, or kidney disease should follow their doctor's advice. Healthy adults can include it in annual preventive health checkups.
